Frank Galbavý has been fascinated by watches from a young age, making the Jacob Guldan brand his dream come true. The founder of the new Slovak watch brand recalls begging his parents for his first watch when he was ten years old: "I received it for my first communion. Since then, I have owned many others, but the ones closest to my heart are those inherited from my mother's godfather. He had taken care of them since the Second World War. We often had lengthy discussions about watches, so I greatly appreciate that the most valuable thing he meticulously preserved throughout his life was given to me."
Frank first encountered the name and work of Jacob Guldan when he returned to Slovakia after spending a long time abroad and wandered into the clock museum in Bratislava.
He was interested in the technical history of Slovakia. "I knew that many skilled craftsmen and clever masters lived here, but I learned about watchmakers for the first time," Frank Galbavý explains. Inspired by their precise work, he decided to continue this tradition and show the world that even today, Slovakia can design and produce unique and quality watches.
Talking about the first attempts and what preceded the final product, he says: "Producing the final version of the watches required a lot of effort. It took me several years and long evenings spent researching watch components, analyzing materials, technical drawings, and also after producing a large number of prototypes. I discovered that the only way to achieve excellent craftsmanship requires extraordinary attention to detail and time."
